Aquanexa looks to international markets, starting with Romania

Aquanexa starts from Romania: EXPOAPA 2026 marks the first step on its international journey

Romania is the first step on Aquanexa’s international journey. Participation in EXPOAPA 2026, Romania’s leading event dedicated to the water sector, marks the beginning of a new phase for the Group, bringing beyond Italy the integrated model it has developed over the years alongside utilities.

From 8 to 10 September, Aquanexa took part in EXPOAPA 2026 in Bucharest, meeting operators, institutions and companies at the forefront of the evolution of Romania’s water sector.

This presence has a clear significance within the Group’s growth path: starting from Romania to launch Aquanexa’s international development, making the expertise built in Italy available to the local market while, at the same time, building collaborations with organisations and centres of excellence across the country.

Why start from Romania

The Romanian market is undergoing a major process of infrastructure development and modernisation, supported by public and European investment and by the need to meet increasingly ambitious targets in terms of efficiency, quality and resilience.

Leakage reduction, network efficiency, upgrades to wastewater and drinking water treatment infrastructure, digitalisation and the ability to turn data into value are among the key challenges at the heart of this transformation.

These are areas in which Aquanexa has built a strong body of experience in the Italian market over the years, and which now provide the foundation for its international journey. Andrea Lanuzza addressed these themes in his 8 September talk, “Making Smart Water Infrastructure”, ranging from smart infrastructure to Smart Treatment and drawing on 10 success stories to explore whether the Italian model can also provide useful insights beyond national borders.

From Italian experience to a model for international markets

Aquanexa was born and has grown in Italy, where utilities have long faced complex networks, infrastructure modernisation needs, leakage reduction, digitalisation and increasing attention to the resilience of water resources.

It is in this context that the Group has developed a model that goes beyond the logic of a single technology or a single intervention.

The starting point is the outcome the client needs to achieve: reducing leakage, increasing network efficiency, improving monitoring capabilities, optimising processes, making infrastructure more resilient and supporting the achievement of regulatory targets.

Based on these objectives, infrastructure, engineering, technologies, automation, data and specialist expertise are integrated to build end-to-end solutions.

Today, Aquanexa brings together 14 companies organised into 5 Business Units, more than 350 professionals and 400 utilities as active clients, combining complementary expertise across the water sector value chain.

EXPOAPA 2026, the starting point

Participation in EXPOAPA provided an opportunity to gain an even closer understanding of the Romanian market and engage directly with operators, institutions and companies across the sector.

With 86 exhibitors from 13 countries and more than 4,000 expected participants, the event reflected the scale of a rapidly evolving ecosystem and the collaboration opportunities that can emerge around the transformation of the water sector.

During the days in Bucharest, the Aquanexa stand was also visited by Ilie Vlaicu, President of ARA (Romanian Water Association), H.E. Laura Aghilarre, Ambassador of Italy to Romania, accompanied by Federico Mozzi, Head of the Economic and Commercial Office.

EXPOAPA is therefore not an isolated initiative, but the beginning of a journey.

Starting from Romania, Aquanexa intends to progressively develop its international presence, exploring opportunities through commercial and corporate partnerships and combining the expertise developed by the Group with local knowledge, capabilities and centres of excellence.

Because transforming the water sector requires technology and investment, but above all the ability to bring different areas of expertise together around shared objectives.
