DIGITAL TWIN OF RIVER BASINS

Virtual replicas for monitoring and sustainable management of water resources

Water scarcity/excess management is a complex challenge that requires advanced tools to analyze, predict and optimize water resources.

Aquanexa offers Digital Twin solutions, virtual replicas of watersheds that combine real data and simulations to provide a complete and dynamic view of hydraulic and environmental conditions.

Thanks to innovative technologies such as IOT sensors, GIS and analytical models, Digital Twins make it possible to monitor critical parameters such as flow rates, levels, water quality and water network behaviors:

  • Water Stress: it is operated according to the AqueductTM procedure but at a higher resolution, to verify the impact of water extraction on the catchment areas and to simulate their evolution according to design choices or climate change scenarios.
  • Flood alert: service for the management of storm water discharges into During intense rainfall events, if the river level rises above the discharge threshold, the pressure into the sewer network increase  with the risk of regurgitation and flooding, in which case it is necessary to close the drains and to manage the existing storage tanks. The system takes the civil protection bulletin at the entrance and predicts the river level at the discharge points with a predictive approach, allowing agile management of closure interventions avoiding false alarms or missed interventions.
  • Withdrawal plan: to provide decision support (DSS) and manage the collection of water from the reservoir. The system makes it possible to optimize the level of the tanks and/or to predict any water shortages or overflows. The tool accepts seasonal forecasts of water inflow with a probabilistic approach. In this way, it is possible to avoid waste and manage periods of drought.
  • Drought alert: a particularly useful service for utilities that extract water from springs or wells. The system takes ECMWF seasonal forecasts at the input and provides a forecast for the coming weeks of the contributions to the basins or the levels of the aquifer, based on precipitation and the presence of snow in the mountains. It is therefore possible to identify the anomaly with respect to the historical and predict the evolution in the summer months.
  • Flood alerts: the power of data combined with that of IOT allows you to have global real-time water data (data snippet), real-time forecasts (nowcast snippet) and future analysis (forecast and flood alert notifications) to counter water risks and data scarcity.

This service is ideal for local authorities, irrigation consortia, utilities and companies that manage watershed infrastructure, providing an effective solution to address water management challenges.
